Kane Press books are written for children ages 3–11. Our new trade imprint, StarBerry Books, which launches in Spring 2018 with five picture books, focuses on diverse, imaginative stories with bright, colorful illustrations. We are actively seeking submissions for the StarBerry imprint. Books in the Kane Press line are series-based, with an educational underpinning. For example, each title in the Math Matters series features a fictional narrative in which kids find fun ways to use math in everyday life. Books in the popular Milo & Jazz Mysteries chapter books series feature kids using problem-solving skills. While Kane Press is not currently seeking submissions for titles in our ongoing series, we are open to discussing ideas for new series.
Due to the volume of submissions we receive, we respond only to manuscripts of interest to us. If you have not heard back from us after three months, you may assume your project is not the right fit for our program. We prefer that all manuscripts be submitted by email:
Senior Editor Joy Bean
“I am drawn to humorous books, nature/sustainability/environmental stories, lively non-fiction of all types, and I have a special affection for stories featuring cats. I also love character-driven stories and a new approach to telling a story.”
Editor Jes Negrón
“I love humor, an element of the absurd, magic, space, robots, and mystery. On the more serious side, I would love to see characters and narratives that help children explore concepts too often discussed in whispers. I am especially interested in stories featuring characters, authors, and illustrators from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.”
